Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was questioned about the fast on the day of `Arafah? He said:

It is an expiation for the sins of the preceding year and the coming one.

All Muslims should observe Fasting on the Day of `Arafah, except those who are performing Hajj as Fasting may weaken their strength and power to observe Talbiyah, supplication, and remembrance of Allah.
