Mississippi schools announce closures, classes online

Some Mississippi schools are closing Monday as Hurricane Ida is expected to intensify to Category 4 before making landfall on the Louisiana coastline Sunday, bringing rain and flooding to parts of Mississippi.

Ambition Prep School

Ambition Prep officials announced through Facebook that the school will be closed, and urged people to watch for further communication through social media platforms

Attala County

School officials announced via Twitter that schools and offices will be closed, and that online classes are canceled.

Bay St. Louis-Waveland School District

District officials announced through a post on the district’s Facebook page that they will not have school on Monday, urging everyone to stay safe.

Biloxi Public School District

In an announcement on the district’s website, officials said students will have a virtual learning day Monday to include both live instruction and independent work periods. 

Brookhaven School District

In an announcement on their website, officials have closed all schools, offices and departments, and extracurricular activities have been canceled.

Columbia School District

Columbia School District officials said in a post on the district’s Facebook page that based on recommendations from the Marion County Emergency Management, schools will be closed Monday. 

Catholic Diocese of Biloxi

All schools in the Catholic Diocese of Biloxi will be closed Monday, according to a news release by the Diocese. 

Enterprise School District

Superintendent Josh Perkins announced on the district’s website that officials will monitor the weather throughout the weekend and make an announcement by 4 p.m. Sunday if there will be a change in the learning format.
