Mississippi schools announce closures, classes online
Some Mississippi schools are closing Monday as Hurricane Ida is expected to intensify to Category 4 before making landfall on the Louisiana coastline Sunday, bringing rain and flooding to parts of Mississippi.

Ambition Prep School
Ambition Prep officials announced through Facebook that the school will be closed, and urged people to watch for further communication through social media platforms
Attala County
School officials announced via Twitter that schools and offices will be closed, and that online classes are canceled.
Bay St. Louis-Waveland School District
District officials announced through a post on the district’s Facebook page that they will not have school on Monday, urging everyone to stay safe.
Biloxi Public School District
In an announcement on the district’s website, officials said students will have a virtual learning day Monday to include both live instruction and independent work periods.
Brookhaven School District
In an announcement on their website, officials have closed all schools, offices and departments, and extracurricular activities have been canceled.
Columbia School District
Columbia School District officials said in a post on the district’s Facebook page that based on recommendations from the Marion County Emergency Management, schools will be closed Monday.
Catholic Diocese of Biloxi
All schools in the Catholic Diocese of Biloxi will be closed Monday, according to a news release by the Diocese.
Enterprise School District
Superintendent Josh Perkins announced on the district’s website that officials will monitor the weather throughout the weekend and make an announcement by 4 p.m. Sunday if there will be a change in the learning format.
Forrest County School District
According to a post on the district’s Facebook, officials were advised by emergency management to not make a decision on school closures as of Friday.
Forrest County Agricultural High Schools
According to an announcement on the Forrest County Agricultural High Schools website, officials had been advised by emergency management to hold off on making a decision regarding school closures.
George County School District
Gulfport School District
Gulfport School officials have announced on their webpage that they will move to School-to-Home asynchronous and synchronous learning.
Greene County School District
Greene County School District officials said in a post to the district’s Facebook page they would make a decision about any changes to the school schedule, school closures, delays, etc., by Sunday.
Hancock County School District
Hancock County School District officials announced on the district’s website all schools will move to distance learning for Monday and Tuesday.
Hattiesburg Public Schools
According to a post on the Hattiesburg Public Schools Facebook page, after officials met with Forrest County Emergency Management, it appears the current storm track will not affect school operations. However, an official announcement regarding school Monday will be made no later than Sunday.
Jackson County School District
District officials said classes will be canceled for Monday, according to an announcement on the district’s website. Officials added they will assess conditions on Monday before determining what they will do for the remainder of the week.
Jefferson Davis County School District
All Jefferson Davis County School District schools will be closed Monday, according to a post on the district’s Facebook page.
Jones College
Jones College Officials said in a news release all college operations will move forward as scheduled for Monday, however, officials will continue to monitor Hurricane Ida and the impact of the projected storm path.
Any changes to schedules will be announced at noon on Sunday through campus email, the college website https://www.jcjc.edu/ and the college’s social media channels.
Lawrence County School District
Lawrence County School District will have an inclement weather day Monday with no onsite or virtual learning, according to an announcement on the district’s website.
Lincoln County School District
Superintendent David Martin said district officials will monitor the weather over the weekend and make a decision about school Monday as the storm gets closer.
Long Beach School District
Officials announced on the district’s website that all schools are currently scheduled for a regular school day on Monday, but students were assigned laptops before the weekend and are prepared to transition to virtual instruction in the event that the schools close.
District officials said they will monitor weather conditions and send updates.
Marion County School District
Marion County School District officials announced through a Facebook post that all schools and facilities will be closed Monday and reopened Tuesday. Officials will monitor weather updates and post updates about school closures on the district’s website or social media.
Moss Point School District
The Moss Point School District will be closed on Monday, district officials said in a Facebook post Friday. District officials plan to return to school Tuesday for a regular school day.
Natchez-Adams School District
The Natchez-Adams School District will be closed Monday, according to an announcement on the district’s website.
Ocean Springs School District
Ocean Springs School District schools will be closed Monday due to Hurricane Ida, according to an announcement on the school district’s website. District officials said the missed day will be made up on Oct. 7.
Pass Christian School District
District officials announced in a Facebook post that they will make a decision about school operations after Sunday’s update of the weather.
Pearl River County School District
All schools will be closed Monday, including no virtual learning, due to the potential impact of Hurricane Ida, according to an announcement on the district’s website.
Poplarville School District
The Poplarville School District will be closed Monday, according to an announcement on the district’s website. School officials will monitor weather conditions to post future updates on the district’s website and Facebook page.
Richton School District
Richton School District officials are monitoring the potential threat of severe weather and said they will make an official announcement on Sunday regarding school Monday and Tuesday, according to an announcement on the district’s website.
Simpson County School District
Simpson County School District schools will be closed Monday and classes are expected to resume Tuesday, according to a message on the district’s website.
Wayne County School District
Wayne County School District officials will announce no later than 9 a.m. Sunday about if there are any changes for school Monday, according to a post on the district’s Facebook page.
